Rebecca gets blunt…

My friend and colleague Rebecca Mackinnon is complaining about “conference fatigue”, a condition I often seem to come down with around this time of year. In her fatigued state, she’s being wonderfully blunt about the “future of journalism” debate so many of the conferences she and I attend seem to be about:

The question of whether “mainstream media” will survive, or whether it should survive, or in what form, or how, is irrelevant. I don’t care. I’m sick of arguments about that.

What I care about is whether journalism – the process of hunting down factual information and verifying it – survives and thrives somewhere, somehow.

Amen to that.
