I am Zimbabwean living in England and I used to live in Harare, I must say that my country has been ruined by world's biggest terrorist which is Mugabe, look at the exchange rate, poverty, economic conditions of Zimbabwe. When I think about it my heart really goes, I wonder why Mugabe does not let citizens of Zimbabwe decide the future of the country and also Mugabe must realize that he is in power since last 30 years his mind is getting old and he cannot think the same as young generation can think, so he must resign for the better of Zimbabweans. Thank you

One can only speculate what Mugabe's game plan is. He probably lost the election outright to Tsvangirai a month ago. I'll bet he's planning on using a combination of intimidation and vote-rigging to win the next election.

Noel: It will take a 2.5 trillion dollar bill to give the same value as this new 10 million dollar bill in only two years, due to the 50,000% inflation rate. So, Zimbabwe really doesn't have a long way to go, they'll shatter that 500 billion record in less than two years.

So, if they're to avoid Yugoslavia's level of inflation, they have only about a year to correct the problem.

I just returned from a trip this week to Belgrade, where among other things I bought for 500 dinars a collection of the money printed during the years of hyperinflation under Milosovic. They reached a record having printed a 500,000,000,000 note - 500 billion. So, sadly, Zimbabwe has a long way to go. Hyperinflation ended in 1994 when they pegged the dinar to the German Mark and issues what were then called New Dinars. Milosovic's regime survived this period of hyperinflation and he was not forced out of power until until 2000. Hopefully, hyperinflation in Zimbabwe will not reach the heights it did in the former Yugoslavia nor will Mugabe stay in power for years after it ends.

To my knowledge, no government has ever experienced this form of inflation and survived. If history is any guide, Mugabe's weeks are numbered. Unfortunately I do not hear these articles discussing what Zimbabwe's neighbors, the African Union, the UN, NGOs, or others are doing to prepare for the increasing likeihood of economic (and with it, political) meltdown in the country. Even a one percent chance of political chaos and disolution should ramp up planning and preparation. That I have not heard much suggests to me two worrying possibilities: (1) the UN, AU and NGOs will be completely unprepared; and (2) the South African military is potentially extremely well prepared.
