Very nice.. I agree with her point on exhibitionism and Craigslist, as I had a close friend participate in social media this way. I also agree with the fact that being open and not hiding online is better. The sexual rush is people knowing who you are and that everything is absolutely real!

I've blogged under the Bacchus identity at ErosBlog for more than five years without having my real name made public, but as near as I can tell, that's simply because nobody has ever tried very hard to track me down. I'm male and boring and I don't blog much about my own sex life, so nobody cares what my "real name" is. I've never considered myself to be blogging anonymously or seeking anonymity -- I'm merely using a weak pseudonym to help preserve a little temporary privacy. I have assumed from day one that eventually my online and offline identities will become associated. And, because of that, when it eventually happens, it won't matter, it won't be news, and nobody will care. If seven people even notice, I'll be shocked.

[...] Violet Blue at ETech Ethan Zuckerman, March 6, 2008 I’d expected Violet Blue’s talk at ETech to be packed. After all, she’s a sex blogger, a professional sex educator, a columnist for the SF Chronicle, and her talk was on the topic of “Sexual Identity Online”. Perhaps it says something about the ETech crowd that competing talks on database structures were as well attended. [...]

Well Violet Blue sure doesn't need to worry about being out in public. The more publicity she garners, the more money she makes. Think about those who would lose their lives or their jobs if they lost their anonymity. I think I'll keep by life and job.
