The British newspaper that I read on the plane last night had this as a cover story, and had at least three other big pieces about it. If I weren't so jet-lagged, I'd remember which free paper it was that I picked up on the jetway en route to the plane! Anyway, I was impressed with the depth of their coverage.

It's good that Morgan Tsvangarai and the MDC Party leaders decided to boycott the upcoming farce of an election runoff in Zimbabwe. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation together with Kofi Annan and a host of African leaders and scholars are circulating an open letter on Zimbabwe (you can check it out at my place).

Truth of the matter is, Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF henchmen and thugs will not relinquish power over the country without a fight. Plenty of people around the world would love to see the rapid demise of Mugabe and his enforcers but no government either in the "international community of nations" or in the region (SADC countries) has the "canollis" to bring this awful despot down. In addition, key people in the Mugabe regime should be brought before an international criminal court for a whole bevy of crimes they have committed against the people of Zimbabwe___ but that, like free and fair democratic elections under Zanu-PF rule, is a pipe dream.
