I just can't believe this, but this is the first time I've heard about XDR-TB, and I'm what you might call an enlightened excample of the species homo sapiens.

What I do know, is that this has been expected for years, and maybe it shows that in spite of all our efforts, humanity will never be in control of it's own destiny, worrying as that may sound.

Ethan, you've hit the nail on the head. Poor diagnosis, poorly administered drugs, weak pharmacovigilance, and counterfeit drugs together make the job of stopping TB extremely hard indeed. It's not just about buying more drugs and making them available to those who need them most in the developing world. It is also about all these other things that no body wants to pay attention to. Hope people will start paying attention.
